Hold on Loosely, but don't let go!!!
Have you ever wondered what a good theme song for dating would be? I mean this song needs to play on repeat in your head everyday all day when you are dating. Sing it in the shower, listen to it at the gym, belt it your car, etc etc etc!!! Do whatever it takes to hammer it in your head. I once read about this wonderful 80's tune by .38 Special "Hold on Loosely" Before it became an anthem it was just another 80's song I would dance to. However, it has saved me from much heartache from guys I have dated. Before, I use to be kinda psycho:-/. I probably drove guys bonkers wondering "why don't you like me?" But this song made all the difference, and when relationships didn't work out I was able to walk away. "Eh, he's not the one" is what I would tell myself everytime. I just didn't put 100% in at the beginning right away. I feel if you keep it to where you're still breathing in your freedom love will attack, or if it doesn't you can build off that experience and not go postal from the lust. Ladies be cool and collected!

Quote for the Moment
Hey there Guys and Dolls! I came across this wonderful quote that I would love to share. I always always always say this, and I swear people never focus on these words.
"Stop looking for a partner. Focus on your goals and rebuilding your life. The right person will eventually find their way to you." You need to be yourself, and focus on your life dreams and goals. What do you want for yourself in your career and achievements? If you see your path and travel down it without stopping for a rest your dream will be reached.
My life was in shambles for awhile. I dated the wrong dudes, was in a bad relationship, lost who I was, and was in a life threatening car accident. Finally you just have to wake up, and get back on that path to success. I started to draw and paint again, and realized I wanted to pursue a masters in fine art. So, that is exactly what I did. I went back to school, had multiple art shows, freelanced for awhile, and my dream man literally came into my life. Maybe, one day I will tell you the story of my fiance and I but that is one long story:) I now only have five classes to finish for that MFA, live in Los Angeles, and engaged to the man of my dreams.
So, ladies and gentlemen focus on you! That special someone will fit into your life perfectly when they come along. You don't want to feel like that relationship is another job. Instead it's something that you cherish and love. I promise if you're patient they will come:)

Drink of the week!
Jenny and I are sitting at a bar in Santa Monica enjoying Happy Hour before our shift. Shhhh, don't tell our boss.
Anyways, I wanted to share the cocktail of choice for the week. Right now I'm enjoying a gin gimlet. Shocker, after I just shared my new found love for gin. The drink is delicious and gives a nice sweet taste. It's very simple to make if you want to enjoy at home, or have at a restaurant or bar.
Pour 2 ounces of gin in a glass filled with ice, and top with fresh squeezed lime juice, or rose's lime. Boom! Simple! You can also make it into a martini, or use vodka if you hate gin.

Resolutions!!!
Happy New Year Liquor and Love Readers! Yes yes we know we are over a week late, but we’ve all been very busy getting back into the swing of things and getting out of the snowstorm back east! Today we wanted to talk about resolutions, 10 days into the new year and you may have already given up on yours. But its not too late! This year Shauna and I thought long and hard about ours (especially after the Christmas party debacle). Sidenote...Shauna and I did straight up life evaluations after that party. Anyhoo...thinking back over the years and listening to everyone’s resolutions year after year we decided it’s always the same. This year I will lose weight, I will work out more, I will eat healthy, I will quit smoking. And while ours may have a hint of some of that we decided to focus on little changes rather than big proclamations. Working in a bar as fun as it is, is not always easy. You’re on your feet for hours on ends. You’re serving people drinks and burgers and fries. People want to buy you shots. People want you to be having a good time because they are partying so why aren’t you? Don’t get us wrong we aren’t complaining about being able to take a shot of tequila with some customers but after a while it does take a toll on your body and your level of productivity outside of that job. So this year we made our resolutions a little more focused. Jenny is going to concentrate on laying off the booze and french fries at work a bit. Focusing more on music and teaching yoga and not letting the bar be my main thing in life. And Shauna is going to concentrate on getting her MFA in Illustration, and her beauty business. You didn’t know we had all these skills did ya? The things you find out about your bartenders. I swear we aren’t just a couple of drunk girls in the bar taking your order! What we suggest is maybe sitting down and thinking about your big goals and what the little steps are for you to get there. Maybe have a friend that you talk to that will keep you on track. Shauna and I talk to each other and encourage each other (sometimes badly influence each other too). What are your resolutions? What are the steps you will take to get you there? Feel free to share in the comments. We love feedback and ideas for how to make goals and stick with them! It’s not too late. Every day you can start new. Happy Friday!!!

Drink of the Week!
Well, It's been awhile since our last post. I would like to share with you a drink of the week. I've never been a fan of gin. I always thought it had a horrible smell, so that made me think the taste was no better. It wasn't until this last summer that all changed.
I would like to share with you the drink that changed my gin mind. This cocktail is called 'BEE'S KNEES' One sip from this cocktail, and my hate disappeared. The odor was masked so well, that I thought I was drinking vodka. The secret is to use a dry gin for the cocktail.
Here are the ingredients you will need:
2 ounces Gin
1 1/2 ounce sweet and sour
1 ounce honey syrup
Lemon wedge for garnish
Takes about three minutes to make this easy delicious drink.
Voilà! Now drink up, but make sure you pace yourself. We would hate to hear you broke one of our rules:'(
Also, remember to call a cab, uber or lyft. We don't want you driving around the streets of L.A intoxicated. Stay safe ladies and gentleman!

Sometimes rules are made to be broken
We had our holiday party at work this week. There was fireball. There was Jameson. There was karaoke (with lots of Disney songs thanks to Shauna). We were a total HOTMESS. We broke rules and made no apologies about it. So we decided we couldn't lecture anyone on the rules of liquor and love and appropriate bar behavior. The sheer amount of Uber receipts sitting in my email inbox wouldn't let me anyway. We could have relied on the whole "do as we say, not as we do" thing but we just aren't those kind of girls. So this week we fell off our high horse. I'm confident we will climb back on it soon. But we may wait until all the holiday cocktailing is over. Happy Holidays!!

Drink of the week
This week at the bar we had a meeting about the new cocktail list we will be launching. I got to thinking about our blog and since it's supposed to be about liquor AND love I thought why not bring you recipes of our favorite cocktails! Since I love to drink whiskey and bourbon I am going to start with this little number
1 (or 1 1/2 cause let's be honest) shots of Bulleit bourbon
Agave nectar
A little sugar
Squeeze a few lemons
A dash of sprite
Measurements?
I don't believe in them. Measure to taste.
The bourbon will keep you warm on this chilly night. Believe me!
Now, as crazy as it is I have a friday night off! I am going to put on a cute dress and go drink a few of these while Shauna works her behind off.
Happy and safe drinking this weekend. Remember to use Uber or Lyft or go old school and call a cab while out holiday partying.
XO,
Jenny

Hey, Shit Talker!!
Well, we survived another busy weekend slingin' drinks and came up with a few ideas for this weeks blog. Because this is suppose to be the season of giving and general cheeriness we decided that this weeks blog should be about people's general attitudes towards each other. One thing we picked up on over this weekend was the amount of people talking (with no better way to say it) shit about each other. "Look at what that girl is wearing" "She looks like a slut" "That guy looks like a douchebag" Now I know we have all been there and said those things, and hey maybe it's valid sometimes. But for the most part YOU mainly look like the asshole. And further more it just makes you look really insecure. A group of attractive women sitting at the bar over the weekend maybe in their mid 40's were talking poorly about people in the bar and a coworker of ours referred to them "As the Real Bitches of Santa Monica." Would you like to be referred to as that at your favorite local bar? For example Shauna's fiancé was once on a date with a girl who was incredibly rude to an overweight man who accidently brushed up against her. He left that girl right then and there. Now we will throw Shauna under the bus a little and say that her fiancé actually used to think she was someone that she wasn't because of the way she was talking to her friend about other people in the bar. As he said to us attraction is multi-layered the looks will peak your interest but the personality will keep you there. Luckily he realized Shauna was not really that kind of girl and he put a ring on it anyway. Now this doesn't just apply to girls. Nothing makes a man look more insecure than by talking badly about other guys or picking fights with other dudes after a couple too many drinks. There are one or two guys I know that have a couple drinks and pick a fight with any guy that even looks at them a little off. This is not attractive to us ladies. We feel uncomfortable. We don't think you're tough. We think you're a drunken idiot. So this weekend as the many Holiday bar crawls are going around and we are all acting like it's our first weekend in college doing shots of fireball and drinking pitchers of cheap beer remember your manners. Maybe that girls Santa outfit is showing a little too much of her behind, remember it doesn't make you look better trying to make her look worse. Have fun and be safe!

Liquor and Love's 10 Commandments
Day in and day out as we sling drinks and serve the masses we see many and I mean many mistakes made by those who are single and ready to mingle. Many people don't realize that your bar staff sees and hears EVERYTHING. You may think we are just quietly pouring your beers and delivering your food but in all reality we are probably eavesdropping. To ease the awkward tension of a first date or a chance meeting at the bar everyone has a drink or seven and that's where the trouble begins. We decided to start this blog while discussing the many mistakes (and total hotmess moments) we see daily. So why not kick it off with our 10 Commandments of dating etiquette.
1. DO NOT GET WASTED- I know that may be asking a lot of some of you, but if you are on a first date or just getting to know someone the chances of you making a ginormous ass out of yourself because you had more than enough alcohol increases by a lot. Patti Stanger has a point with that "2 drink limit" rule. Slurring and sloppy behavior is not attractive on anyone. Wait until you already have them hooked to show your best drunk self.
2. KEEP IT CLASSY- Ladies I know it's tempting to win the guys over with your sexiest (read sluttiest) outfit but honestly how long will that attention last? The night? Two days? Let's be real respect lasts a lot longer than attention does. Guys-Put away your sailor mouths and remember what gentlemanly behavior looks like. Open the door for your lady, ask her what she would like to drink or eat. Let her order first, it's very simple I promise. If you want to talk trash and drink beer and watch football do it with your homeboys and treat the lady you are courting with a little respect.
3. DESPERATION IS NEVER ATTRACTIVE- On anyone, ever. If you go to the bar with your friends or even alone go to enjoy yourself. If your main mission is to find someone the chances are everyone can smell it on you. Have fun have a drink and relax. Which leads us right into...
4. LEAVE SOMETHING TO BE DESIRED- I know it's exciting when you meet that cute guy or gal that you think may actually turn into something so let it turn into something. Don't give it all away up front. Exchange numbers and leave it at that. Everything will fall into place if you keep it simple. Don't try so hard, and for God's sake keep it in your pants on the first night. Nothing ruins a potential relationship like some slutty first night behavior. That goes for girls AND guys.
5. BRAGGERS- I do not want to hear your resume of accomplishments. From my side of the bar listening to someone go on and on about themselves makes me want to grab the bottle of Jameson and pour it down my throat. No one cares about all the great things you have done this is not an interview. This is Los Angeles we all have friends that are on TV or in that magazine or know someone that knows someone blah blah blah. Get over yourself and be real!!!!
6. CONFIDENCE- There is nothing more attractive then someone who is sure of themselves. Not arrogant but confident. We see so many people who get there before their friends and are just sitting on their phones nervously awaiting the arrival of their friends. It's ok to be at the bar alone. Get a drink, talk to the staff. Opportunity is everywhere and the more time you sit worrying what people are going to think of you the more time you are wasting. Be who you are not who you think you should be. You'll be surprised at how attractive you become to others.
7. DON'T PLAY GAMES- Ok people enough is enough. If I hear one more conversation at the bar about when I should call, text, facebook, etc I am going to pull my hair out. You are all making it way too complicated. You met, you like each other now call each other. Don't be meek but don't be overbearing. And while I'm on this subject a word to the men and women of Los Angeles.....there isn't something else out there that is so much better than what you already have. Enough with the non-committal stuff, you like the girl/guy enough to keep them around then KEEP THEM AROUND. If you don't want to commit to what you have then don't, stop half ass-ing it.
8.TECHNOLOGY- You are in public, there are people around. Put away your iwhatever and look around. Smile at someone. Or even, I know this is crazy but....talk to the person you are sitting with! If you are on a date the phone goes away. Period the end. I wait on so many couples that both sit there cruising Facebook through cocktails. You are missing out on what's going on around you. You can always read our blog later guys.
9. BODY LANGUAGE- Less is more. There's a difference between being flirty and being perceived as slutty. Being all over someone is not attractive on either side. We don't like it when guys are all over us that we barely know and ladies doing that sends one message and one message only and I think we all know what that is. Also if you are in a relationship please for the love of God do not be that couple sitting in a booth making out. You have a bedroom at home keep the foreplay in it please.
10. BAGGAGE- Leave it behind guys. You are out, you are starting over, you are taking the world by the balls!! But you can't do that if you are going on and on about your ex that cheated on you. Your future husband/wife doesn't want to sit and hear it (and for that matter neither does your bartender, that's above our pay grade). Pay a therapist to talk about your problems with that old boyfriend you can't get off your mind. We all have baggage and discussing your past is something that eventually will happen. No need to present all your crazy right off the bat. Take a little time getting to know each other before you let that freak flag fly.
That about sums it up for now. But we are always watching and most likely listening to your conversations. We will be bringing you stories of our adventures in bartending. Visit us often and don't be surprised if there are some liquor fueled posts, we need a drink from time to time as well.
